There's lithium in the air

Virtually every manufacturer of battery power construction tools has come out with a line of lithium powered devices. Why? Like nickel metal hydride, lithium has no memory effect--the tendency of a battery to lose capacity when only charged partially.
But lithium has many other advantages:
